Philanthropy plays a dynamic role in Saint Mary's history. In the early years, donations offset initial operating costs, fueled the expansion of facilities and helped furnish state-of-the-art medical equipment. Over time, contributions from individuals, businesses and organizations allowed Saint Mary's to maintain a margin of excellence as the Truckee Meadows' preeminent hospital. Even now, the most advanced technology in surgery, radiology and cardiac treatments, as well as comprehensive maternal/child health services and emergency care, are provided at Saint Mary's because of the remarkable generosity of its donors.

Sustained charitable giving also enables Saint Mary's to provide needed programs for the underserved populations of our area. Saint Mary's operates two freestanding neighborhood clinics, three mobile clinics; the area's first nonprofit hospice program and a parish nurse program. In addition, philanthropy supports pediatric dental services, wellness for seniors, free immunizations, community health education and indigent care.

The increasing health care needs of northern Nevada are greater and more challenging today than ever before. The rising costs of technology, coupled with the growing number of people in need, means financial resources are often strained. Providing a broad spectrum of essential, quality medical services (even those that do not necessarily produce revenue) and an enduring commitment to mission requires Saint Mary's to seek continued donor support.

Saint Mary's Foundation was created in 1987 to promote charitable giving and community partnerships. The benefits to Foundation donors are outstanding: 100% of contributions go to programs and services; a donor may direct a gift to a specific area of interest; the Foundation recognizes donors for both annual and cumulative giving. The Foundation generates funding for Saint Mary's through events, as well as through gifts of cash, stock, real estate and bequests. Through resource development and contributor involvement, the Foundation provides a bridge between a kindhearted community and the lives that may be saved or changed through the fulfillment of Saint Mary's mission.
